What does promptmaxxing mean?

One more instruction. Another example. A longer list of things the chatbot must never do. Promptmaxxing is a joking label for taking prompt improvement to extremes — tweaking and re-tweaking even when it's hard to tell whether the extra work is actually helping.

The example is a joke at the speaker’s own expense. They have spent more time arranging the request than the email needed. Someone could enjoy experimenting with prompts and still recognize that they occasionally get carried away.

Why it matters

There is a satisfying sense of control in perfecting instructions. It can also become a way to put off judging the answer. The useful comparison is with prompt engineering: changes should earn their place by making the result better, not just the prompt longer.

Where it came from

The word combines prompt with the internet suffix -maxxing, the one that shows up whenever people talk about pushing some activity to its absolute limit. Whether this particular combination has really caught on, we can't say — what's below is just one way people seem to be using it.
